Lang niet alle baby’s hebben een makkelijke start. De één heeft veel last van krampjes, de ander strekt, huilt of is onrustig.

In onze osteopathie praktijk zien we veel baby’s en kindjes die misschien iets minder vloeiend door de eerste periode heen gaan. Vaak zien de ouders iets opvallends. Bijvoorbeeld:

Inslapen of doorslapen kan soms problemen geven. Van hazenslaapjes kom je nooit echt tot rust. Maar soms ligt je kind scheef in de wieg. Hij of zij kijkt vaak naar één kant. Soms zie je ook een afplatting van het hoofd. Darmkrampjes helpen ook niet om tot rust te komen. Zeker als daarbij ook nog een (verborgen) reflux aanwezig is.

Van ouders die ons bezoeken horen wij vaak dat hun kind onrustig is. Ze voelen een soort van ‘ongemak’, alsof hij of zij niet helemaal lekker in het vel zit. Zo kan het zijn dat je baby veel strekt of overstrekt. Het hoofd wil gemakkelijk achterover, maar minder makkelijk voorover. Maar een voorkeurshouding is ook iets wat aandacht vraagt. Als je baby veel naar 1 kant kijkt, of als hij of zij gebogen in de wieg ligt.

Darmkrampjes helpen ook niet om tot rust te komen. Zeker als daarbij ook nog een (verborgen) reflux aanwezig is. Soms hebben baby’s moeite met poepen en plassen, of ze geven voeding terug (reflux) Ook klachten als krampjes, obstipatie of diarree zijn veel voorkomend.

Een osteopaat zoekt in het hele lichaam. Hij doet dat met mijn handen. Je zou kunnen zeggen dat hij de elasticiteit van het weefsel beoordeelt. Het is belangrijk dat alles soepel beweegt, want juist door spanning ontstaan klachten.

Bij een baby is het hoofd relatief groot. Bovendien is dit het gebied waarbij tijdens de bevalling veel spanningen optreden. Hierdoor wordt bij baby’s vaak aan het hoofd behandeld. Gek genoeg kan spanning in dat gebied, uiteenlopende klachten veroorzaken. Bijna altijd reageert het hele lichaam. En daar is gedrag weer een uiting van.

Ik werk al 20 jaar met baby’s en kinderen. In mijn tijd als fysiotherapeut verzorgde ik de therapie bij de jongeren in de Sint Maartenkliniek in Nijmegen. Daarna werkte ik met baby’s en kinderen in Waldhausen in Oostenrijk. En ook als osteopaat draaide ik jaren mee op een kinderspreekuur in Amsterdam. Terwijl ik daarnaast ook baby’s en kinderen zag in mijn praktijk voor osteopathie.
